The Etrez (01) storage site
Commissioned in 1980, Etrez is a salt cavern storage site. It is located north-west of Bourg-en-Bresse, and extends across 5 towns of Ain. With a usable volume representing the annual consumption of the city of Lyon, it makes a large contribution to the secure procurement of natural gas in the Rhône-Alpes region.
In terms of capacity, the Etrez site is the biggest salt cavern storage site in France, and the 5th biggest in Europe. The site is constantly developing, with the creation of new caverns and surface facilities, along with the renovation of the older facilities, with a view to constantly improving the operational and environmental performances: reduction of atmospheric emissions and noise pollution; limitation of the visual impact of surface facilities, carefully integrated into the countryside.
